Perfect Fall Day Trips That Are Less Than 3 Hours From Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh is a great city with lots of things to do - It didn’t get named one of the best cities in America for nothing. But sometimes you just need to get away and explore a little outside your comfort zone.

Pittsburgh’s location makes it perfect for random day adventures and since our neighbors of Ohio and West Virginia are so close you don’t have to contain yourself to the Keystone State!

  • Explore the waterfalls, hiking rails, and fall fiolage in beautiful Ohiopyle State Park! This beautiful park will keep you busy for hours and is only 1 hour and 17 minutes from the city! Enjoy the drive on the back country roads. I promise you this amazing park wont disappoint.

  • Stargaze and take in beautiful mother nature at Allegheny National Forest. This large protected green space is only 1 hour and 57 minutes from Pittsburgh and has woodlands you’ll love and amazing star filled sky at night.

  • Looking to get spooked?! Check out Beaver Creek State Park in Ohio. Only 1 hour and 6 minutes away, the park has many ghostly legends that haunt the area. Paranormal Investigators and skeptics alike flock here often. The placard site where the notorious gangster Pretty Boy Floyd was shot dead, the Old Mill House and be sure to check out Gretchen’s Lock. I don’t want to give up too many details and ruin an adventure but get ready for some goosebumps!

  • Explore the odd and visit Moundsville, WV, you can explore the old Moundsville State Penitentiary, the Archive of Afterlife Museum, and the Grave Creek Mound- there’s not shortage of odd here in this small West Virginia town. It’s an easy 1 hour and 20 minute drive away!

  • Explore the caves of McConnell’s Mill State Park only 42 minutes away, you can explore the rock formations, caves, waterfalls, historic mill, and rock climb if you’re feeling brave! Remember though, be careful!
